Audio 7.1.1
El presente simple es utilizado para hablar de acciones habituales, rutinas, hechos generales y verdades universales.
En este tema abordaremos las estructura afirmativa y la interrogativa yes/no del verbo to be.
Para el pronombre I, la estructura afirmativa es:

YES/NO QUESTIONS CON EL VERBO TO BE
La estructura de yes/no question se forma tomando las estructuras de las oraciones afirmativas e intercambiando las posiciones entre el sujeto y el verbo to be, como ocurre en todas las oraciones interrogativas al cambiar las posiciones entre el sujeto y el verbo auxiliar de la oración.
Las estructuras correspondientes las podemos observar en la siguiente tabla:

RESPUESTAS CORTAS
Para responder las yes/no questions debemos considerar por quién se pregunta. Dependiendo de esto usamos la forma del verbo to be correspondiente.
Ejemplos:
1. Is she a doctor?
En vista de que es una pregunta que se le hace a alguien, debemos responder con un "sí" o con un "no".
Para responder con un "sí", quien responde debe decir "yes", luego, usa el sujeto por quien va a responder, es decir, como va a responder por "ella", usa "she" y luego la forma del verbo to be correspondiente a "she", esto es "is": "Yes, she is".
Para responder con un "no", responde "no", luego, usa el sujeto por quien va a responder, es decir, como va a responder por "ella", usa "she" y luego la forma del verbo to be correspondiente a "she", esto es "is" y luego negamos con un "not": "No, she is not".
2. Are you at the hospital?
En vista de que es una pregunta que te hacen a ti, debes responder con un "sí" o con un "no".
Para responder con un "sí", dices "yes", luego, usas el sujeto por quien vas a responder, es decir, como vas a responder por "ti", usas "I" y luego la forma del verbo to be correspondiente a "I", esto es "am": "Yes, I am".
Para responder con un "no", dices "no", luego, usas el sujeto por quien vas a responder, es decir, como vas a responder por "ti", usas "I" y luego la forma del verbo to be correspondiente a "I", esto es "am" y luego niegas con un "not": "No, I am not".
